They say macOS isn’t meant for gaming, but it’s not. Besides playing at https://www.playamo.com/en-CA, you can enjoy other games. Here are 8 good games that you can run on Apple laptops and computers. Most of them aren’t demanding – you can play them with good graphics settings and performance.
Disco Elysium
One of the top role-playing games of recent years, as the average score on the aggregators is 97 points. The player gets the role of a detective who wakes up hungover and realizes that he has forgotten everything: who he is, where he is, how he got here and what he has to do. In this state, he has to solve a murder in the streets of the fictional town of Revanshol, encountering all kinds of people and finding himself in situations of varying degrees of madness.
There is virtually no combat here, but there are elaborate dialogues with many developments, during which you can even talk to the voices in the protagonist’s head – they, in fact, represent different skills.
Stardew Valley
A simulation of farm life in the Stardew Valley. The main character arranges life in a cozy village, helps neighbors and builds relationships with them.
You can do almost anything here: fishing, growing a vegetable garden, mining. Or go underground and fight monsters to extract precious resources. Finally, nothing prevents you from learning how to cook food with different recipes, build good relationships with the locals and even find a life partner and start a family.
All in all, the perfect game for a meditative immersion in rural life with soothing music and vivid pixel graphics to take a break after a day’s work.
Portal 1 and 2
Portal is one of the main representatives of the puzzle genre, in which you have to solve spatial puzzles using spatial portals. The main character, lab test participant Chell, is trying to escape from the Aperture Science complex. She is opposed by a distraught artificial intelligence, GladOS, who arranges new tests with portals.
It’s an atmospheric and eventful story, at times poignant and at times very funny. What’s more, both the first and the second part are not long – for those who lack short but intense single-player adventures.
Sid Meier’s Civilization VI
The sixth part of a global strategy series about the development of civilization through all historical eras – from ancient times to the atomic and information age. The player chooses a civilization from several dozen options and begins the game on a randomly generated map – along with other countries.
A civilization must be led to victory – militarily, culturally, scientifically, religiously, or diplomatically. And depending on what you choose, your strategy changes dramatically: the scientific power is unlikely to win culturally, and the religious won’t fly into space.
Hollow Knight
A stylish platformer about a beetle knight who explores a mysterious underground world called Hollow Knight. Hollow Knight belongs to the “metroidvania” genre: the more places and mechanics you explore, the better you master the gameplay, and it makes sense to return to most locations during the passage.
Hollow Knight is a challenging game that rewards you for your persistence and curiosity. It’s worth trying for those players who are tired of the same kind of games: it’s very hard to tear yourself away from the gameplay from the very first minutes.
Divinity: Original Sin 2
One of the most successful RPGs of our time. Divinity: Original Sin 2 works in the spirit of the tabletop Dungeon & Dragons: players can create almost any character they want and build their adventure in different ways. Your hero assembles a squad of unique characters and explores a large fantasy world.
Most of all Divinity: Original Sin 2 is praised for its varied playthrough and extensive role-playing: you can kill any character in the game and even enter into dialogues with animals. Moreover, Original Sin 2 can be played in co-op mode with two players.
Firewatch
Firewatch is one of the main representatives of the so-called walking simulators. A meditative game about the everyday life of forest sentinel Henry, it’s not a cozy walk through the incredibly beautiful Wyoming forests, but a parable about the nature of relationships.
It doesn’t involve fighting enemies, searching for resources, and teaming up with other players. Instead, the developers offer the player to immerse themselves in a leisurely four-hour story that is sure to sink in.
Subnautica
Formally it’s a survival simulator on a hostile oceanic planet without land, but in fact, it’s almost a horror story about horrors from the depths of the sea. The protagonist must dive into the darkest and scariest corners of the alien ocean to find the resources he needs.
Subnautica boasts a unique ecosystem with many reefs and underwater caves, a great variety of biomes and sea creatures, among which there are giant leviathans and bone sharks. Each playthrough is unique thanks to random world generation, so you’ll have something to tell your friends about your adventures in the deep sea.
