PC games make us forget about everything else. Some, like browser releases, allow us to rest completely, and those that are available via National Casino can even bring money. But what if you want to spend time with your friends? These are the most striking computer games of the last 10 years, which can be played as a couple or with a group of friends – together or over the network.
Rayman Legends is a colorful platformer. It’s made in 2D with a side view. The picture pleases with juicy colors and smooth animation. It is easy to confuse it with a cartoon. That said, the game is suitable for weak PCs – it was released in 2013, but in terms of graphics has been preserved very well.
Rayman Legends has implemented “couch” co-op for 4 participants. There is no online mode in the game, which can be called one of its rare disadvantages.
Initial levels in the platformer are not complicated, wear them on a couple with a child. At the end, you will have to sweat, especially if you want to collect all the collectibles.
Rocket League is a fun game of Autosoccer. On a small field huge ball racing cars. In physics, they look like radio-controlled models, but in fact are equipped with rocket nozzles. The cars jump, ride the walls, ram opponents. On the lawn there is real chaos. It’s the kind of arcade you want to run over and over again.
Rocket League single mode can safely be ignored. Go to multiplayer, form a team and participate in battles 2×2, 3×3, and 4×4. There is no time to catch your breath in short matches.
In 2020, the Rocket League moved into the camp of free-to-play projects. At least try it – maybe it will become a decoration of the evening, and maybe more than one.
Dark Souls 3
The Dark Souls series is known for its intimidating complexity. After several parts it hasn’t lost its charisma and hasn’t loosened its grip. The reviews of the third game are very positive.
In a showdown with tricky and “fat” opponents that change behavior during a duel, it is advisable to use parries, blocks, and rolls. No less fun than exhausting duels is exploring levels full of secrets and items.
There is no special co-op mode in Dark Souls 3 game’s settings. But you can buy a special item – “white chalk”, then draw a sign with it, and then you will be summoned to the cooperative session. You too can come across such a message and call for help from another user (random or friend), for example, before a boss showdown.
Don’t Starve Together
Don’t Starve Together is a survival game that grew out of Don’t Starve, which lacked multiplayer despite its popularity.
The essence of Don’t Starve Together is simple: gather resources, smash monsters, expand your base. The pace of the game is crazy, you won’t have a free minute. Co-op is a little easier, though, not so much to sit still and contemplate nature.
In search of adventure, use three parameters: “health”, “hunger”, “sanity”. They wane and encourage us to go to dangerous places.
Overcooked! 2 is a dynamic cooking arcade game for 2-4 cooks. The first player makes soup, the second player pours it on plates, and the third player washes the dishes.
The cooks are pressed by a timer and unusual conditions. Dishes must be served to customers strictly on time, otherwise the profits would cry. As for the conditions, you have to slice onions and flip cabbage in a narrow space, and the restaurant can also be in a balloon basket, or the floor can move underfoot.
The key to victory is knowing the levels and a clear division of responsibilities. Without coordination, you’ll burn the kitchen and quarrel with friends.
Divinity: Original Sin 2
Divinity: Original Sin 2 is an isometric RPG, inspired by the classics of the genre from the 90s. You’ll find detailed environments, engaging turn-based battles, tons of puzzles, and an interesting storyline – not a masterpiece, of course, but not a collection of fantasy templates from the first part.
RPG supports network and local co-op for 2-4 participants. Multiplayer here is very funny, the game flow resembles a board game. In this case, the players are not tied to each other and are free to disperse at opposite ends of the map, but in fights it is better to stand shoulder to shoulder.
It’s unnecessary to cut through the storyline campaign unchanged composition. Users can optionally join a party created by their friend and disconnect, leaving him alone.
Monster Hunter: World
Monster Hunter: World is all about hunting monsters. There is nothing else in it, except tracking monsters and fighting them. Nevertheless, it’s wildly popular.
Perhaps the secret is the intense multiplayer. Up to four people join forces and head out into the fields or forests to pick yet another monster creature. Alone you have almost no chance against particularly strong monsters. Another thing is in co-op, when gamers distribute duties and, following common tactics, bring down the monster.
In Raft, you find yourself on a small raft in the middle of an endless ocean. Your best hope is a rope hook to pull up planks, palm leaves, barrels and debris as they pass by.
In time, the unsightly raft will become a floating mansion. There’s a vegetable garden in one part, a livestock pen in the other, where you usually meet the sunset, and fishing there.
Naturally, the way to the private estate will be difficult. You will have to fight off sharks, carefully scour the islands, dive to the roots of the reefs, to overcome storms. A cooperative game will facilitate this process.
A Way Out
A Way Out tells the story of a jailbreak together. The heroes, Vincent and Leo, suffered the actions of the same man, found common ground behind bars, and are now determined to break free and seek revenge.
The characters interact in different ways. They have to open the door together, the first distracts the guard, and the second twists the case, the heroes generally compete in arm wrestling. There are enough activities, what is going on resembles a spectacular Hollywood action movie, where the plot isn’t in the foreground.
Single mode isn’t provided. You can either play with a friend – or not at all. But you only need one copy of the game.
World War Z
World War Z is an extremely fun third-person zombie shooter based on the Brad Pitt movie. The zombie horde’s believable simulation has become a trademark of the game. This is where World War Z competes with Days Gone.
The shooter is designed for a quartet of companions. Initially four locations were available: New York, Tokyo, and Jerusalem. Later, the developers prepared three more – Rome, Marseille, and Kamchatka.
The Gears of War series has always been loved for its cooperative mode. If gamers arrange a gathering for the holidays, it’s usually to explore some novelty, mutually mutilate each other in Mortal Kombat, or together pass just Gears of War.
Gears 5 is a linear shooter like the previous releases, except that it now features expansive locations. The chainsaws and shelter system are in place.
The story campaign of Gears 5 is allowed to pass in threes. The same applies to the Escape mode – here, a trio of fighters must escape from the enemy’s lair. And in the “horde mode”, where it’s necessary to destroy the waves of enemies, you can rush in five.
What is remarkable about Borderlands? The “cartoon” visual style, the freak heroes, the co-op. And for the unimaginable amount of weapons and loot Borderlands is called the “shooter-looter”.
Pay attention to Borderlands 3, the actual part of the franchise. Hanging out in cooperative mode is possible without regard to the level of pumping. The fact that the level of enemies is adjusted for each squad member: if you have recently bought the game, you will have weak enemies in co-op; but they will be very strong for a person who has been stuck in Borderlands 3 for dozens of hours. An important point: the “loot” of each adventurer is unique. No one will go unscathed.
On computers, only network co-op is available, on consoles – still and “split-screen”, that is making the passage on one console with split screen.
Trine 4: The Nightmare Prince
In Trine 4: The Nightmare Prince, you jump over chasms, fight monsters and solve puzzles. It’s an easy to learn puzzle-platformer with fabulous graphics.
The adventure, as before, involves three characters: the wizard Amadeus, the thief Zoe and the warrior Pontius. You switch between them and use their skills as needed. For example, the thief has freezing arrows, the wizard conjures cubes-platforms from the air, and the warrior redirects sunlight with his shield. The physics of the game allows you to pass the task in different ways, including those not provided by the developers.
There are two cooperative modes in Trine 4. In the first three, players control different characters. The second one pits four gamers, and they aren’t limited in their choice of heroes – you can go charging through the squad with only warriors if you want.
Mortal Kombat 11
Among the computer games for two, Mortal Kombat 11 is usually perceived as the default choice. Even people far removed from virtual entertainment have heard of this fighting game lineup.
The entry threshold is low, the combat system is clear, hurry to pass your friend’s controller or keyboard – and go ahead, identify the strongest.
Fighting attracts exemplary “grapho”, a pack of guest characters (terminator T-800, Robocop, Joker) and a creative approach to achieving the authors, the so-called fatalities.
Saints Row: The Third Remastered
Saints Row is an absurd GTA clone. To surpass GTA in terms of story and characters did not succeed, so the authors of Saints Row went the way of parody and crazy quests. To play with your partner in Saints Row: The Third game will be much more funny, than to play alone. You can call him to join the story at any moment. Plus there’s a “horde mode” reminiscent of Gears of War.
The original Saints Row: The Third game was released in 2011, the remastered edition – in 2020. We recommend the “remastered” because graphically it more or less corresponds to the modern releases.
Retro fans are advised to take a closer look at Streets of Rage 4. It will cause pleasant memories of the 90’s and the picture, and gameplay.
Streets of Rage 4 belongs to the beat ’em up genre. You wander through two-dimensional scenery, scatter enemies in fist fights, and finally beat the hell out of the boss.
Streets of Rage 4 isn’t as challenging as the first installments of the series from the ’90s. “It’s easy to blend in: here’s a regular punch, here’s a strong punch, here’s a combo, and you can also juggle your opponents. Since the characters can be changed during the game, you will try them all before the credits.
Streets of Rage 4 supports co-op for two people on the network and for four – for one display.
An example of a budget game with an intriguing central idea is the puzzle game Biped. Its characters (which, incidentally, bring to mind the cartoon WALL-E) are two-legged robots. You control each leg separately. The puzzles are based on accurate control of the clumsy mechanism.
In “single”, the complexity of Biped is child’s play. The project flourishes in co-op: there are tests and additional segments of levels. Not Super Mario, but it will keep you busy for an evening or two.
It Takes Two
It Takes Two is a creative platformer from the creator of A Way Out about spouses turned into miniature versions of themselves. They are forced to overcome fantastic challenges in a fairy-tale version of their home.
It Takes Two can be played by two people and only the two of them. Online multiplayer or local, on the same couch – it’s up to you to decide. It’s enough to buy one copy of the game.
Gameplay is not limited to running and jumping. For example, there are puzzles and a segment stylized as a fighting game. We won’t list all the genre tossups and situations because that’s what makes It Takes Two so good – it regularly gives you something fresh.
Dying Light 2: Stay Human
Dying Light is one of the best zombie action games with an open world. Close-quarters combat with the undead is complemented by parkour. The first part was released in 2015, and the sequel in February 2022.
The action takes place 15 years after the events of the first game. Now the hero goes to Europe – in search of his sister. The game world became much bigger, and it is not divided into locations, but changes depending on your actions. The other important difference of the second part is that there are no more firearms. No firearms at all. From the enemies (zombies and people), you have to fight with improvised means. Or escape with a cat-hook and parkour skills. It’s much more fun to jump on rooftops with friends than alone.
